WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition and Physical Activity
Our institute is honored to have been re-designated as the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition and Physical Activity (JPN-88) for the third term (March 19, 2022 to March 18, 2026). As WHO Collaborating Centre, we support WHO and other countries through the following two Terms of Reference (TOR).
- Upon WHO’s request, provide technical input and support to WHO and its Member States on national policy and strategy on nutrition and food-based dietary guidance for Sustainable Healthy Diets as part of the implementation of Regional Nutrition and NCDs strategies and action plans, toward the global nutrition targets.
- At WHO request, support WHO’s work in its provision of technical support to Member States to strengthen capacity on surveillance of nutrition and physical activity as part of the subnational/national monitoring system for double burden of malnutrition.
There are 24 WHO Collaborating Centres worldwide focused on nutrition, with four located in the Western Pacific region (as of July 2024, The WHO Collaborating Centres Global database). These include China (1), Japan (1), and Australia (2). Our institute is the sole WHO Collaborating Centre in East Asia with a mandate for both nutrition and physical activity.
In collaboration with the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, we aim to improve and prevent the double burden of malnutrition by strengthening the capacity of researchers and policymakers in member states, alongside the development of new research.
