The result of an international collaborative research through the NIBION fellowship program was presented at the 95th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine

Dr. Somphone SOUKHAVONG, a fellowship researcher for the year 2023, and Dr. Miwa YAMAGUCHI (then Head of International Nutrition Strategy Laboratory, and her supervising researcher), compiled a joint research result,　“Seasonal variation in nutrition intake among young people in Lao PDR”, and presented it at the 95th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine on March 21, 2025.

The key point of this research is that it suggested the possibility of seasonal differences in access to food among young Laotians, where information on nutritional status is lacking.

As a follow-up to the fellowship program, we aim to continue analyzing data on the nutritional status of young people in Laos to reinforce the country’s nutrition policy.
