Networking Event for Researchers of NIBIOHN Fellowship Program was held!

The National Institute of Health and Nutrition (NIHN), National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN) has been implementing the NIBIOHN Fellowship Program for Asian Researchers (hereinafter referred to as "Fellowship Program") since 2004. As a part of activities of WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition and Physical Activity (JPN-88), it aims to promote international collaboration between Asian countries and to support fellows to acquire and improve their knowledge and skills related to health and nutrition.

We held an exchange event of the researchers of our Fellowship Program after the 11th Asian Network Symposium on Nutrition on January 24 (Wednesday), 2024. It was the first event of its kind, and we were very pleased to have 11 participants, with the attendance of Dr. Juliawati UNTORO, Nutrition Technical Lead, WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific. First, we introduced ourselves to one another, and then exchanged opinions and information about the challenges in conducting a survey on nutrition and physical activity, which will help us better plan our future survey. All the participants enjoyed the event, and one hour passed by very quickly. We will continue to provide such opportunities to deepen the fellowship exchanges in the future.

Comments and ideas: the challenges of the national nutrition and physical activity survey

EIt is important to standardize the process of planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring, and have this procedure harmonized in the country. However, harmonization has not been completed in some regions at this time.
EIn order to utilize the survey results for policy making, analysis by researchers is necessary. However, improving the analytical skills and develop human resource are one of the current challenges. A domestic and international network of researchers is also needed.
EIt is essential for dietary surveys to be conducted by nutrition specialists such as dietitians, but there are not enough human resources.
