2. Background and objectives
It has been reported that improving physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior are related to good health outcomes. Guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behavior have been published by many countries and academic societies, including the WHO. In Japan, the " Physical Activity and Exercise Guide for Health Promotion 2023" was published in January 2024. Recently, improvements in measurement technology have made it possible to measure physical activity and sedentary behavior in detail non-invasively, and the relationship between physical activity/sedentary behavior, and health outcomes have become more detail. On the other hand, it is also fact that the misconceptions between devices in various measurement devices are becoming larger, resulting in large differences in numerical targets.
3. Overview of our research
- As a hub for universities and research institutes, to generate further evidence on physical activity/sedentary behavior, and health
- To contribute to the development of guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behavior by reviewing the evidence, and to practice research and support for social implementation
- To develop new measuring devices and manage its accuracy
- To contribute to the promotion of national health through the analysis of step counts and exercise habits from the National Health and Nutrition Survey.
